It all began in the year 2021 when an eclectic group of talented recipe developers, skilled home cooks, professional chefs and culinary artists joined forces to create The Cookie Dough Team. As they say, coming together is a beginning!
Of course, Shubhi possessed a wealth of experience after working in the UK’s renowned kitchens, in addition to the team’s respective tenures in the restaurant industry and attendance at culinary schools.

A Business with a Humane Touch
So what exactly led to the inception of the Cookie Dough?
“During the pandemic, I realized that I had pursued a fulfilling career as a chef, working in various places from bakeries to restaurants, both in India and the UK. However, I began to feel a sense of emptiness as I continued to climb the ladder.”
“One night, as the city was shutting down, my family made the decision to take a risk and create a new business. This decision brought together a team of believers but we faced a major setback as we struggled to stay afloat for 12 months, almost facing bankruptcy, which was a heartbreaking experience,” she reflects.
“Before the pandemic hit Mumbai, there were already a million people who were food insecure. Unfortunately, within the first two weeks of the pandemic, that number doubled. To help out, I decided to train fresh team partners from my unit and turn The Cookie Dough into a community kitchen. We started cooking meals in little cardboard boxes, making more than 200 meals a day. This was the first time in my life that I felt like my work in the kitchen actually mattered. I experimented with everything from quality designer cakes to handmade chocolates to meal supplies, without thinking about the profit I was making.”
“The first year was extremely challenging. My team and I had to dig deep into our resources to keep going. We received a lot of criticism, but we believed in our product so much that we went internal for almost a year. We gave no interviews and focused solely on our work. It was like a whisper campaign. Our goal was to make every customer an ambassador for our business,” she adds.
