HEALTHY FOOD CAN BE DELICIOUS TOO!

The notion that healthy food is always bland and unappetizing is a common misconception. In reality, nutritious meals can be delicious, diverse and exciting. I agree it can get challenging since nutrition fads are changing everyday and we are often confused with conflicting advice. Is saturated fat the culprit? Are we all deficient of protein? Are too much of carbohydrates at night harmful?

However, it turns out that the best ways to foster healthy eating are also the simplest. Imagine savouring a hearty bowl of a simple spicy lentil soup that is rich in protein and fiber. Or, a colourful stir-fry loaded with vibrant veggies, nuts and seeds. In fact, with a little creativity and experimentation, we can easily come up with healthy dishes that will not only nourish our bodies but also tantalize our taste buds.

 

No substitute for healthy and nutritious meals

 

Eating a balanced diet provides numerous benefits, including boosting energy levels, supporting weight management and reducing the risk of chronic ailments. Moreover, a healthy diet can also have a positive impact on mental health, improving mood and reducing stress levels. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate nutrient-dense foods into our daily meals.



How do we make our healthy meals tasty?

  1. Incorporation of herbs and spices – One of the simplest ways to make healthy food delicious is to experiment with herbs and spices. These add flavour to meals without extra salt or sugar, allowing us to enjoy our favorite dishes while maintaining a healthy diet. From basil and oregano to cumin and coriander, you actually have countless herbs and spices to choose from!
  2. Explore different cuisines – Trying out new ingredients and exploring the diversity of different cuisines can also help to create exciting and flavourful meals. For instance, incorporating various fruits, vegetables and whole grains into meals can add texture, flavour and vital nutrients. Simultaneously, exploring world cuisines like Indian, Mediterranean, Italian, Korean, Mexican (to name a few only!) can really make our daily meals something to look forward to.
  3. The way we cook matters – Cooking methods also play a significant role in making healthy food delicious. Grilling, roasting and stir-frying are excellent ways to prepare meals while retaining nutrients as well as adding the necessary texture and taste. 
  4. Make the meals look attractive – Making meals visually appealing by incorporating a variety of colourful fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts can also enhance the entire dining experience.

 

Let’s break the myth!

It is high-time for us to break the myth that healthy food is boring by exploring the world of flavours and nutrients that healthy eating has to offer. So, the next time you are preparing a meal, do not hesitate to get creative and try out something new. Your taste buds and body will thank you.
