Party without Guilt this Festive Season!
December 23, 2024
It’s already December, the final month of 2024. The weather is crisp, there are exciting events galore for one and all and it is clearly the party season now right upto the 31st December gala bash and the 1st January special buffet lunch! It is obviously the time to be exposed to and enjoy all the good food and drinks in life like rich food, wine, cakes, pastries, puddings, pizzas, pastas, meats, cold cuts, turkey, fries…the list is endless.
But at the back of our mind we feel anxious and always have questions such as “what do we eat”, “how do we still maintain our weight and good health in spite of all the merry making”, don’t we?
Moderation is the buzzword
However, let me tell you through my experience that festive occasions and treats do not necessarily have to result in guilt or future health issues. “Moderation is the key” should be your guiding principle right through this season. Plus, there are other proven methods to strike the optimal balance between having a good time and continue being fit.
A strong will power is your best bet
First and foremost, you need to maintain a strong will power to not over-eat or over-indulge, whether it concerns food or beverages – as they say, anything in excess is harmful! It is also imperative to stay well hydrated before any social do. Also, do not skip meals to compensate for your over-indulgence the previous night – it never works. Again, never arrive at a party on an empty stomach. And, of course, at the end of it all, reward yourself for your sustained will power to not go overboard during the fun times.
Set your own limits
At any gathering, you should be disciplined enough to maintain reasonable and attainable goals to make sure you never exceed your limits that can result in upsetting your health or fitness regime. Following these simple rules will help you:
- Indulge in small portions of all your favourite dishes.
- Avoid second helpings as far as possible.
- Take small breaks while eating – this will prevent you from bingeing and you will be able to control the portions without any difficulty.
- It’s easy to succumb to all the yummy food, mouth-watering sweet dishes and drinks on offer but it is important to carefully consider your eating and drinking choices so that they do not come in the way of your wellbeing. Remember the hard work you have put in to stay fit the entire year.
More power to your exercise regime
It is important to maintain your fitness routine during this season so that you do not put on those extra pounds or even fall sick owing to the hectic social life. You can indulge in whatever form of activity that you like whether it is working-out at the gym, yoga, pilates, running or simply a brisk walk which offers far more benefits than you can imagine! In fact, a little more exercise to push yourself during this season will actually help to balance out the extra calories.
Some other points to consider include:
- Avoid the consumption of too many sweets. If possible, eat them in the morning so that you can burn it during the day.
- A hearty breakfast everyday is essential – this will not only keep you fit but prevent hunger cravings and over-eating.
- Eat a light snack before you go to any party.
- At a buffet, always look for healthier options among the rich dishes – through this, you not only enjoy the taste by end up eating nutritious food too.
- Always bear in mind, mindful management of eating and drinking is the order of the day. This will allow you to have a great time as well as keep your good health intact.
Here’s wishing you all happy festivities and a lot of fun times!
